La Riviera Maya is located to the south of Cancun and includes the Puerto
Morelos, Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal and Tulum resorts. Over the last 3 years this region has developed considerably and consequently doubled the number of available rooms. The all-inclusive large complexes have taken over most of the coast transforming this region into a large seaside resort much to the image of Cancun.

Fortunately you can still find charming little places that still welcome travellers wishing to spend a quiet holiday on deserted beaches, the type of holidays this region was once renowned to offer. Puerto Morelos is a destination that corresponds to this description, located 18 km from Cancun airport and 32 km from Playa Del Carmen. This quiet and peaceful fisherman’s village, set back from the main road, is frequently compared to the Playa Del Carmen of 20 years ago. This city has no more than a dozen little hotels, each offering 8 to 40 rooms, giving directly on a deserted beach with turquoise water and an omnipresent breeze.
If you dream of taking long walks, with the love of your life, on a beach, far from the noise and the crowds, and if you feel the need to escape from the stress of everyday life, Puerto Morelos is an ideal destination for you. This little village has a small market square where you will find typical little restaurants, boutiques and bars. There is a dock from where boats leave for Cozumel and a diving centre in order to visit the region's beautiful sea floor. We are offering the Casita del Mar, a charming little gay-friendly hotel with 19 rooms giving directly on the beach.

This hotel is mostly appreciated by a lesbian clientele since it corresponds more to their type of holiday. The owner has reorganized the beach in front of the hotel with chairs and palapas and has just finished renovating the pool and the restaurant in order to offer more comfort. The rooms are simple and comfortable and just a few minutes walk from town. It is important to mention that Puerto Morelos is a very very quiet village offering very limited night activities (there are no gay or lesbian bars in the village).
Puerto Morelos is to Mexico what Cayo Largo is to Cuba, the only difference is that Puerto Morelos is not as isolated. Many activities and excursions depart from Puerto Morelos; Cozumel Island is only a fairy away, the Maya sites are easily accessible and Cancun is only 28 km away. If this destination seems too quiet for you and seems to lack the nightlife you love, then Playa Del Carmen will be a better destination for you.
This seaside resort is 53 km from Cancun airport and offers everything you might be looking for. Playa Del Carmen is in full development but has managed to preserve its charm and its Mexican style. This little town offers many delicious restaurants, beautiful bars and different and uncommon boutiques. The atmosphere you’ll find in this little resort is unique and the white-sanded beaches are warm and beautiful. Gay dance clubs, bars and restaurants have recently opened making this destination that much more interesting for the gay clientele.
This region offers many things to do and to see. The Chichen Itza is the most imposing archaeological site of the Yucatan and is worth the trip, the one in Tulum is also beautiful. If you like diving this is the place, with Cozumel nearby and many other sites readily accessible. Although the ecological tours are very interesting, they are not all worth your time.

ADVICES:
- You can rent a car for a day or two and discover the coast at your pace for around 115$ per day. Compare the price of the excursions to the price of the car with the liberty it offers and you’ll see that this option is better.
- Nudism on the beach is illegal in Mexico. This being said, the Puerto Morelos resort is the last establishment on the beach, therefore you simply have to take a walk to the left (since there are kilometres of deserted beaches) and enjoy life “au naturel”. You must simply keep an eye open to make sure no one is looking.
- There are 3 gay bars in Cancun; if you wish to visit these establishments note the last bus departure to return to Puerto Morelos (22 km) and Playa Del Carmen (62 km). A taxi ride would be very expensive to return to Cancun.
- On the Playa Del Carmen beach, in the Condotel beach club section, you’ll find Roberto. Roberto is an excellent masseur (real massages) and is very friendly and professional. You’ll also find fully equipped gyms in Playa Del Carmen offering weekly or daily passes… for those you cannot live a week without working out.
