From Madrid, we arrive in the Baleares Islands, facing Spain, in the
Mediterranean. The island best known by the gay and lesbian community is Ibiza. At first, this destination was mostly sought-after by the international Jet-set and European stars.
|
|
Quickly, however, the island's reputation as the wildest in the Mediterranean attracted a crowd of night owls looking for new sensations.
The island is now part of the gay European circuit and remains a must for those who love to party.
For a while now, the wild nights have lasted until daytime; it is not uncommon to come across a drag queen doing her shopping or sipping a coffee at a
terrace during the day. Aside from the nightlife, Ibiza has a lot to offer: it is full of magnificent beaches, small picturesque villages and historical sites. The city of Ibiza is worth the detour, sitting atop a hill facing the marina, protected by a large wall, spreading along narrow streets boarded by boutiques and cozy bars. The gay sector is at the heart of the old city's fortifications, especially on the street of the Virgen (Calle de la Virgen), but the large hip nightclubs where gays, lesbians and straights hang out are located outside the old city, on the road to Santa Eulalia. Figuretas beach, along which lie hotels, restaurants and bars, is located on the other side of town.

|
The gay beaches are only a few kilometres from downtown and a local bus provides regular shuttle services. The nudist beach is Es
Cavalett, and Las Salinas beach for others.

|
Should you wish to leave the island for a boat trip, do not forget to spend a day on the island of Formentera. You can reach your destination in one hour by hovercraft. Once there, you will discover a beautiful little town typical of the Baleares, with beautiful beaches, including those of Las Illetas, which are frequented by gays and lesbians, as well as shopping. Ibiza is the island where Spring reigns all year round; it rarely rains and it is also said that the
Mediterranean light is more beautiful there than anywhere else.
Bon Voyage!
